Gringo

Gringo is a super app for car drivers that makes life easier for millions of drivers in Brazil. The company was founded in early 2020 by senior entrepreneurs and operates through a “despachante-as-a-service” (forwarding agent) model, offering Brazilian drivers an app-based and seamless experience to monitor, manage and pay for documentation, taxes, and fines. Currently, Brazil has more than 70 million drivers who lack an integrated and one-stop service to manage all their needs when it comes to renewing, paying for, managing and closely following/monitoring all their auto-related general requests. Although Gringo started with documentation, the company’s ultimate goal is to expand its offering into other verticals, such as financing, insurance, and buying/selling.

According to official data released by the Brazilian Government in mid-2020, Brazil currently has 74.3 million inhabitants with driving licenses. Despite the growing number of drivers, Brazil’s DMVs are still fully analog and provide a poor and complex user experience: traffic fines are still handled on paper via a post office, the websites to calculate annual taxes are broken and confusing, payments are made only by cash or bank slips, and transfer of vehicle ownership needs to be done in person. Additionally, all local states in Brazil have their own systems and websites, making it even more complex for users. Gringo is uniquely positioned to offer drivers additional services such as insurance and eventually financing.

The founding team includes Rodrigo Colmonero, a former partner at NEO Investimentos, Juliano Dutra, co-founder of Rapidoo and partner at iFood, and Caique Carvalho, who worked in CarZar, a South African C2B marketplace.
